The Guinness world record for the most people opening bottles simultaneously is 4,339 and was achieved by Bavaria Sab Miller Colombia – Maltizz Product Agency Support SSA Publicidad y Mercadeo S.A. (Colombia) at the Simon Bolivar Park, Bogotá, Colombia.
The event was organised to promote the launch of a new soft drink Maltizz. 283 supervisors observed the record attempt.
Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the most crown cup bottles opened in one minute: 96, achieved by Raffaele Quaranta (Italy), in Taranto, Italy.
The record breaking was part of an event held at the baseball stadium for the "Schools for Water" initiative organized by Katie Spotz, a Mentor native who has been raising awareness for the need for clean water in Kenya.
In 2010, Spotz broke a record of her own by becoming the youngest person to make a solo trip rowing across the Atlantic Ocean. Through that trip, she raised over $100,000 for the Blue Planet Network, an organization that helps provide clean drinking water to places around the world that need it.
The students and teachers pulled off the feat at a celebration for the schools that participated in the Schools for Water program this school year.
