  Most mascots to do the same dance: Japan breaks Guinness world record (VIDEO)

SASEBO, Japan -- 141 "yuru-kyara" (a character meant to promote tourism and local products) from 25 prefectures across the country gathered in Sasebo, Nagasaki Prefecture, to perform a 5-minute song, synchronized dance number to a song called "The Beard Dance" by The Drifters, setting the new world record for the largest group of mascots ever to do the same dance together, according to the World Record Academy: www.worldrecordacademy. com/.

Guinness World Records recognized the world record for the largest gathering of Olympics mascots; it took place with 508 participants at Xinhua Square in Huhehaote City, China.

  The Guinness world record for the Largest collection of sports mascots was set by Adina and Falk Hinneberg (Germany), who has 874 different official sports mascots as of 5 February 2010, that they have amassed since 1972.

  HTB, the event organizers, set the goal of gathering characters from all over the country to perform a synchronized dance number to a song called "The Beard Dance" by The Drifters (a Japanese comedy rock band with no relation to the American R&B group).

  According to Rocket News, the yuru-kyara has to complete the five minute dance with 95 percent accuracy to set a new world record.

  134 mascots put in a flawless performance on the third try and succeeded in setting the new world record! Congratulatory music played and the characters jumped around hugging each other, completely lost in the moment.
