Crowds cheered and clapped while hundreds of mostly young girls performed the Irish jig in an attempt to set a record for the single longest line of dancers.

The previous record of 216 dancers, set in Dublin, Ireland, was meant to be broken, said William Lee, from Pearl River, organizer of the record attempt. ( enlarge photo )

"I thought it would be a great way to promote Irish culture and the feis," said Lee, 43, whose 9-year-old daughter, Brianne, took part in the event. "It's also just a fun time for all the kids who dance here every year."
