  Largest parade of people in fur suits: Pittsburgh breaks Guinness world record (VIDEO)

Pittsburgh, PA, USA -- A turnout of 1,162 people dressed head-to-toe in animal costumes walked, danced and cartwheeled through the halls of the David L. Lawrence Convention Center in Pittsburgh, setting the new world record for the Largest parade of people in fur suits, during the annual Anthrocon — a convention for enthusiasts of anthropomorphics, or humanlike furry creatures, according to the World Record Academy: www.worldrecordacademy.com/ .

 The Guinness world record for the largest gathering of people dressed as turkeys is 661 and was accomplished at the 44th Annual Capital One Bank Dallas YMCA Turkey Trot in Dallas, Texas, USA.

  Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the largest gathering of people dressed as Robin Hood is 1,215 and was achieved by the Camping and Caravanning Club (UK) at the Newark Showground in Newark, Nottingham, UK.

  Anthrocon is a convention for people interested in anthropomorphism, the practice of making non-human creatures, especially animals, seem human-like.

  Although the furries are best known for their full-on costumes, fur suits are only a part of their culture.

   This year alone, Anthrocon's guests are expected to generate $6.2 million in direct spending. More than $758,000 was spent on hotels alone, according to VisitPittsburgh. Anthrocon will also be making a donation to Equine Angels Rescue in Cabot, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported.
