  Largest maypole dance: Maifest smash Guinness world record (VIDEO)

Windsor, ON, Canada -- 220 dancers dancers broke a Guinness World Record outside the Teutonia Club during Maifest, a four-day springtime celebration that this year was a joint effort between the Teutonia Club and the Bavarian Club of Windsor; the 220 dancers participate in a traditional Bavarian May pole dance, setting new world record for the Largest maypole dance , according to the World Record Academy: www.worldrecordacademy.com/ .

 The Guinness world record for the largest maypole dance involved 173 participants at an event organised by Victory House (UK) at The Hurst Community College, in Baughurst, Hampshire, UK.

  Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the largest Macarena dance involved 2,219 participants and was achieved by Eggbuckland Community College (UK) in Plymouth, UK.

  The record-breaking dance took place during Maifest, a four-day springtime celebration that this year was a joint effort between the Teutonia Club and the Bavarian Club of Windsor.

  "The 50-foot May pole was erected during the festival on Friday and in traditional form — using only manpower and without the help of modern machinery," The Windsor Star reported.

  Organizer Tracey Stiller said dozens more than the 173 required to beat the record turned out Saturday and the simultaneous dancing around the May pole lasted longer than five minutes, which was the time they were required to beat.

  She said only about half of the participants were from Windsor. The rest travelled from across Ontario, Michigan, Ohio and Iowa.
