   Largest human floating image: Turkey breaks Guinness World Records record

MUDANYA, Turkey -- A World Record was set in the town of Mudanya in Turkey's northwestern province of Bursa, when 460 people created the world's largest floating peace sign in the Marmara Sea as part of the 93rd Victory Day celebrations on August 30th, according to the World Record Academy .

The Guinness World Records' record for the largest human floating image  consisted of 261 participants and was achieved in an event organised by Monaco Business Development and Ziyad Mazzawi Corporation (both Jordan) in the Dead Sea, Amman, Jordan, on 30 October 2014.

  Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the largest human smiley; it was achieved by 8,018 people during an event organized by Alliance In Motion Global Inc. (Philippines) at Burnham Green, Quirino Grandstand, Luneta Park, Manila, Philippines on 30 May 2015.

    First buoys were placed in the water in the shape of a peace sign, then the volunteers grasped on to the buoys and floated on their backs motionless in the water for 5 minutes.

    Mudanya Mayor Hayri Türky?lmaz, said a message for peace was voiced from Mudanya.

    Previously, the Guinness World records world record for the biggest floating peace sign was held by Jordan, where 262 people in 2014 remained floating for nearly 10 minutes in the beaches of the Dead Sea.

   Mudanya was the site where the final ceasefire was signed in Turkey's War for Independence on October 11th, 1922.

    August 30th is a national holiday in Turkey, commemorating the victory at the Battle of Dumlup?nar in 1922 against Greek forces during the War for Independence.
