  Largest Gathering of People Wearing Sombreros: Angels broke Guinness World Records record (VIDEO)

LOS ANGELES, CA, USA -- In honor of Cinco de Mayo, the Angels successfully set a World Record for the largest gathering of people wearing sombreros for the sixth consecutive year; the official total of people wearing sombreros inside Angel Stadium for the record was 25,111, which is a new world record for the Largest Gathering of People Wearing Sombreros, according to the World Record Academy .

The Guinness World Records' record for the largest gathering of people wearing Akubra hats is 1,912 and was achieved by Kempsey Shire Council (Australia), in Kempsey, New South Wales, Australia, on 9 November 2012.

  Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the most people wearing balloon hats; it is 5,911 people and was achieved by Ang Mo Kio GRC & Sengkang West SMC and the People's Association Balloon Sculpting Interest Groups (both Singapore) in Singapore, on December 31, 2014.

   In order for the record to be official, fans were required to don the sombreros that were distributed upon entry into the stadium at the same time for at least five minutes.

   The official total of people wearing sombreros inside Angel Stadium for the record was 25,111.

   "Sixth straight year of going for a world record now and next year, hopefully, it'll be seven," Angels Marketing Director Kevin Shaw said.
