  Largest gathering of people dressed as Star Trek characters: UK Star Trek Fans break Guinness world record

LONDON, UK -- 1084 Star TrekTM fans gathered in official costumes, breaking the current Guinness World Record for the largest gathering of Star TrekTM characters at Destination Star TrekTM London, at the ExCel Centre and setting the new world record for the Largest gathering of people dressed as Star Trek characters, according to the World Record Academy: www.worldrecordacademy.com/.

The Guinness world record for the largest gathering of people dressed as Star Trek characters was achieved by 1,040 participants at the Official Star Trek Convention at the Las Vegas Rio Suites Hotel in Las Vegas, USA.

Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the Largest science fiction club, set by the International Star Trek Fan Association. Founded in 1974 and based in Independence, Missouri, USA, the organization boast over 4,100 annual members dedicated to the ideals of the Star Trek television series.

  The new World record beats the previous Guinness world record of 1040 fans together, which was achieved at the Las Vegas Star Trek Convention which took place in June, 2011 where fans descended on the Las Vegas Rio Suites Hotel in Las Vegas, USA.

  Many of the characters who dressed up to beat the World Record had taken part in Costume Parades that have been taking place over the course of Destination Star TrekTM London.

  The eagerly anticipated 'Destination Star TrekTM London' is the first official Star TrekTM live event in the UK in 10 years, and saw all five legendary captains: William Shatner (Captain Kirt- Star Trek: The Original Series), Sir Patrick Stewart (Captain Picard- Star Trek: The Next Generation), Avery Brooks (Captain Sisko- Star Trek: Deep Space Nine), Kate Mulgrew (Captain Janeway- Star Trek: Voyager) and Scott Bakula (Captain Archer- Star Trek: Enterprise) come together for the first time in Europe.
