 Largest custard pie fight: Drake University sets world record (HD Video)

DES MOINES, IA, USA -- Nearly 700 students joined the custard pie fight in the Drake UniversityOlmsted Center parking lot - setting the new world record the largest custard pie fight , during an event organized by the "Dogtown After Hours" alcohol-free program.

  The previous Guinness world record for the largest custard pie fight was set by 671 participants from the Lawrenceville School, NJ, (USA).

Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the Most custard pies thrown by two teams of 10: 3,320 pies thrown by 2 teams of 10 in 3 minutes at the Bolton Arena, Bolton, UK.

  The event was organized by the "Dogtown After Hours" alcohol-free program.

  Residents of Drake's Crawford Hall proposed the pie fight, which beat out eight other ideas as the cornerstone of the alcohol-free Drake Dogtown After Hours event.

  Student body president-elect Greg Larson said there was lengthy debate over what type of pies would be used.

  "The one that seemed the cheapest and easiest to work with is an apple filling, so we're going to be using that and then a non-dairy whipped topping to put on top of it," Larson says.

  To qualify for the record, the fruit-pie-flinging frenzy will have to last at least 60 seconds, which wasn't a problem.

  He says the Guinness World Records officials have strict requirements on certain elements of the record-breaking attempt. "You would think that a pie fight would require each person to have one pie," Larson says.
  "Their rules stipulate that each person has to have a minimum of two pies. The original amount that we thought, around 800 pies, we had to double and that increased our costs.
