Olympic Gold Medallist Rower, Andy Hodge along with patrons of The Down’s Syndrome Association ( DSA ), actress Emma Barton and rugby player Shane Geraghty launched this year’s World Record Breaking Charity event.

Mike Scott, Managing Director of the Great British Duck Race , said: “He was glad that the rain didn’t keep spectators away. To race such a large number of ducks is a fantastic achievement and an amazing sight to see! Some serious money was raised for a range of good causes and we managed to break the World Record again for the second year. We are now planning 2009 and hope to see you all there!”

In 1992, 29,000 rubber ducks fell overboard from a boat in the Pacific Ocean and floated around the world for more than 15 years.

The previous World Record for the “ Largest Plastic Duck Race ” was set last year, when 165,000 ducks raced down the River Thames.
