  Most hugs by a mascot character - Super Mario Galaxy 2 sets world record
 MELBOURNE, Australia -- To celebrate Super Mario Galaxy 2 's arrival in Australia, Mario received an impressive 172 hugs in the space of 20 minutes , setting the world record for the most hugs by a mascot character in 20 minutes .

   The record was set at the EB Games Melbourne store - the store on Swanston Street - and one lucky punter also walked away with a copy of the game signed by Shigeru Miyamoto - the creator of Mario, Zelda and Wii Music.

    To commemorate this, every hugger who attended on the day got their own personal photo of the occasion and were among the first in Australia to experience the spectacular new items and new stages of the 3D galactic video game, Super Mario Galaxy 2. They were the first to run, jump and fly through a 3D dazzling galaxy, bursting with imagination.

    It's a new category for The World Record Academy, but the closest comparison is Jeff Ondash , who hugged 7,777 people in a massive 24 hour time period outside a Las Vegas casino.
