The Guinness world record for the longest game of indoor or floor hockey was 50 hours long and was played between the Bert & Macs and Mid-Town Certigard teams at Winston Churchill High School in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada.

Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the longest marathon playing ice hockey; it lasted 242 hr by Brent Saik and friends (Canada) at Saiker's Acres in Sherwood Park, Alberta, Canada.

This event was inspired by one brave little girl, six-year-old Diamond Marshall, who's now in remission from a rare form of adrenal cancer. Her father, Lyall, was among the players.

Organizer Marc Halat says despite the pain, the Hockey Marathon is an event well worth repeating in a year or two.

Alberta Children's Hospital Foundation's president and CEO Saifa Koonar said $1.4 million is an incredible donation.

"This money is going to support our childhood cancer program and also support those kids that are cared for in our pediatric intensive care unit," she said.

"$1.4 million goes a very long way. "We have to find better cures and gentler treatments for kids battling cancer, we need to keep pace with the latest advancements in technology; $1.4 (million) is going to help both of these areas."

The Alberta Children's Hospital Foundation raises funds for excellence in child health, research and family centred care.
Through the generosity of donors, the Foundation provides funding for innovative programs, state-of-the-art equipment, advanced medical training and internationally-recognized pediatric research.
