Longest Curling Game - world record set by the Coaldale Granite Club
 COALDALE, Alta., Canada--Two teams (christened the Rough Cookie and Technical Foul) of five each from the Coaldale Granite Club curled non-stop for 57 hours - setting the new world record for the Longest Curling Game .

The previous Guinness World record for the Longest Curling Game was set by some curlers in Burlington, Ontario, who played 54 hours and one minute.

A team of judges took shifts keeping score.

   Club manager Larry Taylor witnessed much of the action. "After 40 hours, I thought there was no way they were going to make it," said Taylor.
  "If you had walked in and you didn't know what was going on, you would have thought it was a regular league game."

   An amazing thing happened as the players closed in on their goal. The teams wanted to keep playing because the score was so close. They finally stopped at the 57-hour mark. The score was 178-172 in favour of Team Rough Cookie after 208 ends.

   Normally, a curling team has four members, but for the record attempt they are allowed five so one could rotate out for breaks.

 According to the Guinness World Records rules every eight hours curling earns a player a two hour break.
   They are also allowed a five minute break for every hour they play but that five minutes is the only time they are allowed to leave the ice. They have beds set up on the ice to allow players on their two-hour break to have a nap.

One of the curlers involved, Rob Dobson, says he thinks the record attempt made an impact on the club.
  "I know a lot of people came out to cheer me and some of my curling friends on who wouldn't normally pay attention to the club or come out to see live curling."
   He says the challenge raised around $8000 for renovations to the curling centre.
