  Longest curling game: Bala Curling Club sets world record

BALA, Ont., Canada -- Curlers at the Bala Curling Club in central Ontario were on the ice 60 straight hours of hurrying hard - setting the new world record for the Longest curling game .

  The previous Guinness world record for the Longest curling marathon was set last March by curlers in Burlington at 54 hours and one minute.

Guinness World Records also recognized the oldest active curler: Stephen Gittus (Canada, b. 17 February 1910), who continued to play in competitions on a regular basis at the Kamloops Curling Club in Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada, as of 18 November 2010).

  Participants included teens Brittany and Amanda Pearce of Bala, Stephen Collins and Shawn Kelly of Gravenhurst, Matt Williams of Bracebridge, Chad Arney of Bala, Stephen Camin of Midland and Bracebridge native Jessica Williams who is ranked the third best lead in Canada.

  Members of the group have curled together in the past and were chosen based on their ability and team play.

Curler Rob Davidson says the goal of the extra long game was not only to get into the Book of World Records, but also to raise $25,000 for renovations at the club.

  Davidson, the club's past president, says the 98-year-old, two-sheet rink needs work on its basement and other upgrades.
