 Longest Board Game Marathon: two fans set world record (VIDEO)

NEW YORK CITY, USA -- Brett Carow, 32, of Farmington, and Sam Hennemann, 31, who lives in Minneapolis, played Strat-O-Matic Baseball for 61 hours and 2 minutes at Foley's NY Pub and Restaurant - setting the new world record for the Longest Board Game Marathon, according to the World Record Academy: www.worldrecordacademy.com/.

  Strat-O-Matic uses complex statistical analyses to create cards that simulate the results of real baseball players, bringing them to life for über-passionate fans like Carow, 32, and Hennemann, 31.

The Guinness world record for the longest board game marathon lasted 50 hours. Martin Phillips-Hing, Mark Hing, David Ediger, Sam Dyck, Dave Northey and George Sawatzky Jr. (all Canada) played Settlers of Catan: Cities and Knights in Langley, British Columbia, Canada.

Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the largest online Ludo tournament; it featured 4722 competitors and was organised by Mundijuegos.com (Spain) who played Parchís.

  "Few fans are more devoted than Carow, who was the recipient of the first Ultimate Strat-O-Matic Fanatic award last year," ESPN reported.

  He even admits to playing the game while on his honeymoon in St. Louis in 2006.

  They were flown to New York from their homes in Minneapolis and Farmington, Minn.

  The event took place at the storefront window of Foley's NY Pub & Restaurant, a midtown sports bar.

  With five-minute breaks allowed every hour for stretching, the competition required 116 games, approximately 10,000 rolls of the dice and 61 videotapes, which recorded the game as proof for Guinness World Records.
