 Longest baseball game: St. Louis players set world record (VIDEO)

O'Fallon, Mo, USA -- Fifty baseball players from around St. Louis played a 60-hour baseball game at TR Hughes Ballpark in O'Fallon to raise money for charity - setting the new world record for the Longest baseball game, according to the World Record Academy: www.worldrecordacademy.com/.

  The funds raised from the event benefit Backstoppers, an organization that takes care of the family members of fallen police and firefighters.

The Guinness world record for the largest attendance at a baseball game was achieved by 115,300 audience members in a game played between Los Angeles Dodgers and Boston Red Sox (both USA), at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, California, USA.

Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the oldest baseball diamond, set by Fuller Field in Clinton, Massachusetts, USA, which has been proved to have hosted baseball from 1878 to the present day.

   There were 169 innings played, 451 runs scored, three consecutive afternoons of temperatures in the 100 degrees, less than eight hours of sleep for most players, and a World Record-setting total of 60 hours, 11 minutes, and 32 seconds of baseball played. the St. Louis Today reported.

   The world's longest baseball game raised more than $150,000 for Backstoppers, a local charity that supports the families of police, firefighters, and EMS workers who are killed or injured in the line of duty.

  The world record had been held by this St. Louis group twice before, in 2007 and in 2009.
  But in 2011, a group in Vermont broke the 48-hour record -- barely -- with a marathon game of 48 hours, 32 minutes, 45 seconds. Pona and Williams set 60 hours as the goal to push the record out of reach.

  Team Traube Tent defeated Team Leibe Lettering, 249-202, after 169 innings.
