 Largest stadium banner: Penarol fans sets world record (Video)

MONTEVIDEO, Uruguay -- At their Libertadores Cup match with Independiente, Penarol's fans unfurled a giant banner with the team's yellow and black colors to mark their 120th birthday; the banner measured 310 by 48 meters (1017 by 157 feet), covers 15,000 square meters, cost $33,500 and took 300 fans just to carry to the ground , setting the world record for the Largest stadium banner .

The Guinness world record for the Longest banner was set by a cloth banner measuring 50.4 km (31.3 miles) long and 1 metre (3.2ft) wide in Mumbai (Bombay), India.

  Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the largest banner: 54,451 m² (586,103.34 ft²), achieved by Grace Galindez-Gupana in Bar Yeuda, Massada, Israel.


  The World's Largest Stadium Banner  covered nearly half of the stadium.

  The Largest Stadium Banner in The World took four months to make, cost $33,500 and celebrates the 120th anniversary of the Uruguayan club, who have won the South American title five times.

  More than 300 fans helped to carry the flag weighing 1,880 kg from the Penarol club headquarters in Montevideo to the Centenario.
