 Largest Monopoly board game: Lynn Camp students sets world record (PICS)

Corbin, KY, USA -- Students and teachers at Lynn Camp High School used tokens, cards, dice and a board 29 times larger than the real thing to play gym-size game of Monopoly; the board measured more than 50 feet long on each side, for a total area of 2,537 square feet - setting the new world record for the Largest Monopoly Game, according to the World Record Academy: www.worldrecordacademy.com/.

The Guinness world record for the largest Monopoly board game measured 216.97 m2 (2,335.5 ft2) and was created by q.media events during the Doha Trade Fair 2011 at Doha Exhibition Centre, in Doha, Qatar.

Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the most games of Monopoly Millionaires (EA, 2011) to take place simultaneously: 32,976, achieved on Global Monopoly Day.

  The game wasn't over by the end of school, so the juniors were declared the winners based on having cash and property worth $7,030, Canada said.

  According to The Lexington Herald-Leader,the project, which was in the works for months, provides instruction on several fronts, not least of all collaboration, said Arthur Canada, a design and engineering teacher.

   The World's Largest Monopoly Board Game set was the third larger-than-life project that Lynn Camp teachers and students have undertaken.

  The first was a chess set with pieces 10 feet tall, and last year, students played a game of rummy using cards 7 feet, 4 inches tall. The choice of what to make is "just what sounds fun," Canada said.

  Last year's playing cards were more than twice the size of those listed by Guinness World Records as the largest deck ever created.
