 Largest Ring a Ring O' Rosie: Irish school students breaks world record (PICS & Video)

COOTEHILL, Ireland -- 909 students from St. Aidan's Comprehensive School, Cootehill, Co. Cavan Ireland, joined their hands and formed a massive ring and started walking in a circle whilst singing "Ring around the Rosie, a pocket full of posies, ashes, ashes, we all fall down," setting the new world record for the Largest Ring a Ring O' Rosie, according to the World Record Academy: www.worldrecordacademy.com/.

   The previous world record for the Largest Ring O Rosie was set by 550 children from schools all over Bolton (UK).

The Guinness world record for the Largest Mambo Dance was set by 3,868 people danced to Pérez Prado's Mambo No. 5 for five minutes at Palau Sant Jordi, Barcelona, Spain.

Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the largest Twist dance, achieved by 1,706 participants at an event organised by WSYD-AM Radio in Mount Airy, North Carolina, USA.

  The 909 students joined there hands and formed a massive ring and started walking in a circle whilst singing "Ring around the Rosie, a pocket full of posies, ashes, ashes, we all fall down." and on the down word , everyone attempted to sit down.

  It was impossible to tell who was the last person sitting down , but the game was completed with great joy and commotion.

  Gabriel Shalvey speaking on behalf of the all 909 record breakers: "All of the adults and children seemed to come out of nowhere on the day of the event and even just minutes before the event began.

 "We couldn't believe it when the total recorded was over 900 – even the local shopkeeper closed up and came over to the school. It was a tough task to get everyone holding hands continously and to start moving in a circle, but with the help of the helicopter and loud speakers our huge task was successful."

  The event itself was also run to sponsor the Club Feilie All Ireland Hurling Championships.

  "Hurling is the oldest and fastest field sport in the world and on the day present at the record attempt was Eddie Brennan,a Kilkenny Hurler and the owner of eight All Ireland Hurling Medals, and for anyone reading this in the USA it's like winning eight super bowls!"

  Eddie also had the All Ireland Cup – Liam Mc Carthy Cup with him on the day.

  The 909 particpants all felt that this was a great day and a very worthy cause to help the fruition of our national sport. It was a fun day out and the challenge of a world record attempt added to the enjoyment.
