Most expensive banana pie: Jerry Mumma sets world record
RICH HILL, MO, USA -- Jerry Mumma, a 75-year-old farmer who grows soy, wheat and corn, paid 3,100 dollars for a peanut-butter banana pie on a Hammond Pretzel crust, baked by his granddaughter, Jara Mumma
, setting the world record for the Most expensive banana pie sold at auction,

"It's rich, peanut buttery, and it tastes pretty good," Jara told the Los Angeles Times. "The pretzel's pretty salty, so it's a contrast."
The Guinness world record for the most expensive pie sold at auction cost £1,250, or roughly $1,935 at today's exchange rate.
Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the largest potato pie; it weighed 5.37 tonnes (11,858 lb) and was made by the District Municipality of Carmen de la Legua Reynoso and displayed in the main square of Miguel Grau Seminario, Carmen de la Legua Reynoso, Callao, Peru

For more than 135 years, the small town in Bates County, Mo., has held an Independence Day celebration that has turned into a multiday patriotic event.
The pie auction has become the largest fundraising event for the Famous for the Fourth celebration, which the city hopes to always keep free, said Natalea Hoeper, president of the celebration committee.
Jerry Mumma, a Rich Hill farmer, paid 3,100 dollars for a peanut-butter banana pie on a Hammond Pretzel crust, baked by his granddaughter, Jara Mumma.
The funds from the auction and other fundraising events directly support next year's celebration. Last year, $7,000 was raised from the pie auction alone. This year, the pie auction piled up about $10,000.
