  Most Layers in a Layer Cake: Toronto bakeries sets world record

TORONTO, ON, Canada -- In celebration of Canada's 144th birthday, Harbourfront Centre asked three Toronto bakeries ( Yoshi's Sweets , Cake Star , and The Guy Who Bakes ) to came together and build a giant layer cake with 255 layers - which sets the new world record for Most Layers in a Layer Cake .

  The previous Guinness world record of 230 layers was set by Jayn Parenti on July 4, 2006 in Springdale, Arkansas.

Guinness World Records also recognized the largest eccles cake; it weighed 56.2 kg (123 lb 14 oz) and was made by Martins Foods (UK) for the Salford Food and Drink Festival in Manchester.

  Yoshi's Sweets, Cake Star, and The Guy Who Bakes worked their magic from midnight throughout Canada Day at Harbourfront Centre to craft the giant confection.

  It required 130 kg of sugar donated by Redpath Sugar and countless amounts of eggs, flour and butter.

  And, on a gorgeous Canada Day, thousands of visitors to the waterfront complex consumed the tasty piece of history.
