  Most Big Macs eaten: Don Gorske sets world record (Video)

FOND DU LAC, Wis., USA -- Don Gorske, 57, a retired prison guard has eaten his 25000th hamburger, 39 years to the day since he ate his first nine - setting the new world record for the Most Big Macs eaten.

  The previous Guinness world record was also set by Don Gorske few years ago.

  Guinness World Records also recognized the largest scrambled eggs, which weighed 1,240 kg (2,733 lb 11 oz) and was made by McDonald's New Zealand (New Zealand).

  A ceremony was held to mark the occasion for 57-year-old Don Gorske at a Wisconsin McDonald's. The hamburger lover said he was happy to make history.

  Gorske said he likes other foods, including bratwurst and lobsters, but that he loves Big Macs and his wife Mary, a nurse, never has to worry about making him a meal.

  Don Gorske, 57, who is slim and apparently with low cholesterol, eats two Big Macs a day and said he would continue "until I die".

  Gorske's obsession with the burger — two all-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun, for those not familiar with the once-ubiquitous ads — started May 17, 1972, when he bought three Big Macs to celebrate the purchase of a new car. He was hooked, and went back to McDonald's twice more that day, eating nine before they closed.

  He buys them in bulk twice a week, keeping the boxes and recording his consumption on a calendar.

  Mr Gorske, 57, appeared in the 2004 documentary film Super Size Me, which looks at the impact of a daily diet of McDonald's food. He is thin and his cholesterol is said to be low.

  "When I was 19 years old I had eaten my first 1,000 Big Macs and I was kind of like, I thought how long before I hit 10,000?" he said before eating the world record 25,000th burger on Tuesday.

  "Then it was like boy, by the time I hit 25,000 I will be old and retired. Well wouldn't you know, I'm not super old, I am 50-something, but I am retired and stuff, but you don't dream of living so long as to reach a milestone like that."

  Mr Gorske says he eats a Big Mac in 16 bites and keeps track of his consumption on calendars.

   Every week he buys six on Monday and eight on Thursday and keeps them in his fridge or freezer until he is ready to eat them, he says.

  He said his wife told him the end will come "when she has to put them in a blender".

   Dave Rause, owner of the McDonald's at 699 S. Military Rd., said he is glad to have Gorske as a regular customer. "As a business, we're exceptionally lucky to have a customer like Don," Rause said.
  "He's just an exceptional guy and a sweet, sweet man. He's also a Big Mac enthusiast. When you have a customer who's enthusiastic about your product, it's a great thing."

  McDonald's says there are 540 calories in a Big Mac, which is more than a quarter of the calories a person on a 2,000-calorie diet would consume.
  The burger also contains 29 grams of fat and 1,040 grams of sodium, which are both more than 40 percent of the Food and Drug Administration's daily recommended value for a 2,000-calorie diet.

  Doctors have said they do not recommend Mr Gorske's diet.
