  Longest salad bar: Hudsonville breaks Guinness world record (VIDEO)

HUDSONVILLE, MI, USA -- Locally grown lettuce, cabbage, radishes and the like were on the table as folks in Hudsonville made a play for the Book of Records; the salad bar was 680 feet long, containing nearly 5,000 pounds of produce grown within Hudsonville city limits, setting the new world record for the Longest salad bar, according to the World Record Academy: www.worldrecordacademy.com/ .

 The Guinness world record for the longest continuous salad bar was constructed by Nola Mayonnaise (South Africa) and measured 201.2 m (660.10 ft). The salad bar was displayed at the Kyalami Exhibition and Conference Centre, Johannesburg, South Africa.

  Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the largest fruit salad; it weighed 5078.88 kg (11,197 lb) and was created by McGill Food and Dining Services (Canada) at McGill University in Montréal, Québec, Canada.

  Locally grown lettuce, cabbage, radishes and the like were on the table as folks in Hudsonville made a play for the Book of Records. Over 120 volunteers helped to serve over 3,600 people.

   All of the produce served at the bar was also grown locally in West Michigan.

   Organizers say the salad bar was 690 feet long and lasted over eight hours.

  Hudsonville's world-record attempt was part of the Saladbowl Bash, which included live entertainment and vendor booths.
