 Longest Ice Cream Sundae: Florida town breaks Guinness world record (VIDEO)

PALM BEACH GARDENS, FL, USA--More than 1,000 people turned out to help build a 1,250-foot sundae at the PGA National Resort & Spa in Palm Beach Gardens; the sundae, which sets the new world record for the Longest Ice Cream Sundae, was laid out in connected troughs that snaked through two ballrooms, according to the World Record Academy: www.worldrecordacademy.com/ .

The Guinness World Records' record for the longest ice cream dessert measures 204.26 m (670 ft 1 in) and was achieved by The LiGht Youth Group (USA), in Cavalier, North Dakota, USA.

  Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the longest chain of people licking ice cream; it was achieved by 2,728 participants at an event organised by Morelli's of Portstewart Ltd. (UK) in Portstewart, Northern Ireland, UK.

  With the assistance of over 257 families and over 100 volunteers from Alliance for Kids and Home Depot, PGA National Resort and Spa on Sunday, August 18th, 2013 built a 1249.9 ft long sundae.

  The sundae consisted of over 1850 lbs of Luke's Ice Cream, 1696 lbs of chocolate sauce, 462 lbs of sprinkles, 840 lbs of whipped cream and 1748 lbs of bananas.

  The toppings were generously donated by Sysco. A portion of the proceeds were donated to Alliance for Kids.

  The Guinness Book of World Records currently recognizes a 1,101-foot concoction made in June by a group in White Bear, Minn.

  The participants paid $30 per family to participate in building and then eating the sundae.
