Largest serving of lechon: Philippines breaks Guinness World Records record (VIDEO)

MANILA, Philippines--The Philippines established the World Record for the "largest serving of lechon" (roast pork) at 4,045 kilograms, breaking the Guinness World Records world record previously held by Mexico at 3,094 kg,
according to the World Record Academy .

The Guinness World Records' record for the largest serving of grilled chicken weighed 1,726.4 kg (3,806.06 lb) and was achieved by OOO Ptitsefabrika Akashevskaya (Russia), in Yoshkar-Ola, Russia, on 9 August 2014.

  Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the largest serving of smoked chicken; it weighs 1,903.6 kg (4,196.72 lb) and was achieved by Ptitsefabrika Akashevskaya (Russia), in Yoshkar-Ola, Russia, on 8 August 2015.

Calata Corporation, an agricultural conglomerate in the Philippines, prepared 4,045 kilograms of lechon on November 8 — about 8,917 pounds. This record overtakes the previous record of 3,094.2 kilograms (about 6,821 pounds) set by Mexico in 2010.

   "We are serving the largest served pork to beat the Guinness World Record of 3,094 kilos held by Mexico," said Parker Ong, vice president for business development of Calata Corp. which sponsored the event.

   "Lechon," a Spanish term, which means roasted suckling pig has been a symbol for feast for most Filipinos. It is a desired dish that brings all the people in the community together.

    The event was held at the Liwasang Aurora, Quezon City Memorial Circle .

    Cooks from Lydia's Lechon were in charge of roasting and chopping the pigs from  Brookfields Meat Inc. , a meat distributor owned by Calata.

    As part of the 16th anniversary of Calata Corporation, the event also served as celebratory feast and an early Christmas treat for the less privileged residents of Metro Manila. The amount of pork served could feed more than 15,000 people.

     Calata also prepared 30 lechon to be given to different charities.

    The event was hosted by Rizza Diaz and was attended by company heads as well as Kapuso Stars such as Kristoff Martin, Derrick Monasterio and Glaiza De Castro, who also performed on stage.
