  Largest potato display: Washington State breaks world record

Vancouver, WA, USA -- A giant display of potatoes, made by The Washington State Potato Commission (WSPC) and consisting of 133,000 pounds of Washington state grown potatoes, was on exhibit at Chuck's Produce and Street Market in Vancouver, WA, setting the new world record for the Largest potato display, according to the World Record Academy: www.worldrecordacademy.com/.

The Guinness world record for the largest serving of mashed potatoes is 1042 kg (2297 lbs) achieved by the Futuroscope and Joël Robuchon (both France) in Poitiers, France.

Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the largest serving of baked potatoes: 1,116 kg (2,460 lb 5.76 oz), achieved by the shopping center El Mirador, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain.

 The World's Largest Potato Display consists of 133,000 pounds of Washington state grown potatoes and takes over the title as unofficially the largest amount of potatoes ever used in one retail exhibit.

  This effort surpasses the previous world record created by Sobeys in Canada earlier this year, where 92,500 pounds of potatoes were used.

  "We're excited to break the current world record, promote Washington state potatoes and give our customers a fantastic deal just in time for the holiday season," Says Paul Todak, Produce Manager at Chuck's Produce & Street Market.

  "We are thrilled to be able to support Chuck's Produce and Street Market with their record breaking display," says WSPC Executive Director, Chris Voigt.

 "Washington state has the highest potato yielding fields in the world and it only makes sense that potatoes that were grown in our state would be used to construct the largest potato display ever."
