  Largest polenta: Fogolar Furlan Windsor sets world record (HD Video)

WINDSOR, ON, Canada -- More than 1,500 people crowded the Windsor's Fogolar Furlan Club grounds to take part in Polenta Fest, where a giant, 6,150 pounds polenta (boiled corn meal) was made - setting the new world record for the Largest polenta, according to World Record Academy (www.worldrecordacademy.com).

  The previous Guinness world record for the largest polenta weighed 1,194 kg (2,632 lb 5 oz) and was prepared by Polentosa 2010 in Feltre, Belluno, Italy.

Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the most people husking corn is 351 and was achieved at an event organised by Knott's Berry Farm (USA) in Buena Park, California, USA.

   Windsor's whopping polenta was more than double the size of the previous world recordholder - a paltry 2,632-pound polenta made in Italy last year.

  The vast 9,500-litre container required a team of a dozen stirrers armed with wooden oars measuring 10 feet in length.

   But The World's Largest Polenta isn't meant for consumption by itself. Club president Cesare Pecile extolled the mouth-watering toppings available at Polenta Fest: salami, cheese, stewed sausage, spezzatino (stewed meats), trippa (cow stomach), baccala (salted cod) and peperonata (sweet peppers).

  "It's a feat," said proud Fogolar Furlan Club board member Maria Pia Vitale.

   According to The Windsor Star, more than 1,500 people crowded the club grounds to take part in Polenta Fest, the city's first celebration of the creamy cornmeal dish that's a staple of Northern Italian cuisine.
