Largest halwa (sweetmeat): Oman breaks Guinness World Records record (VIDEO)

MUSCAT, Oman -- A new World Record was created in Muscat by Al Hosni Omani Sweets for dishing up the largest halwa (sweetmeat) in the shape of the Sultanate's map in celebration of the 45th National Day; the national sweet, which weighed more than 750kg, contained 45 dishes compiled into one large halwa, thus setting the new world record for the Largest halwa (sweetmeat), according to the World Record Academy .

The Guinness World Records' record for the largest dessert party was attended by 1,010, people organized by Michigan State Fair (USA) in Novi, Michigan, USA, on 28 August 2014. All participants chose from a variety of different desserts.

  Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the most different desserts on display; it is 2,232 and was achieved by Dubai Shopping Festival in conjunction with the Emirates Culinary Guild (both UAE) at Uptown Mirdiff, Dubai, UAE, on 13 February 2009.

    The national sweet, which weighed more than 750kg, contained 45 dishes compiled into one large halwa. It took 10 people from the company to cook the halwa from midnight on Monday until dawn.

     The World's Largest Halwa contains 900 litres (lt) of water, 27 kg of corn starch, 270 kg of sugar, 135lt of rose water, 90 kg of ghee and cardamom each and 135 eggs.

    Murshid Al Hosni, owner of Al Hosni Omani Sweets said, "We did this in the name of Oman. The Omani sweet is an inheritance from our forefathers and we must preserve it as our tradition."
