Largest Custard Cream Biscuit - Paul Thacker and Simon Morgan set world record
 NOTTINGHAM, UK--Two cousins, Paul Thacker, 30, and Simon Morgan, 32, spent 11-and-a-half hours to make a 59cm long and 39cm wide cream biscuit - setting the new world record for the Largest Custard Cream Biscuit .

 It took Mr Morgan and Mr Thacker, who is executive chef at the Park Plaza Hotel in Maid Marian Way, 11 and a half hours to make the giant custard cream in the restaurant's kitchens, even without a first attempt before baking began.

  Simon believes his attention to detail and Paul's know-how as a chef were key ingredients.

   Simon said: "It was a bit of a logistical nightmare. The difficulty was turning the biscuit over, from it coming out of the oven we had to slide it and turn the bases around really quickly.We didn't have time for a trial run. "

Paul, who is executive chef at the Park Plaza Hotel, in Maid Marian Way, Nottingham, said it took 11.5 hours to prepare."We had lots of coffee and stayed up all night making it," he said.

A regular custard cream measures 3.5cm x 4.5cm and weighs 12.5g, so the 15.73kg biscuit easily broke the Guinness World record requirement that it be 10 times as big.

   Rob Mulloy, adjudicating for the Guinness World Records, said: "The attention to detail that has gone into this is spectacular. "This is very well put together, well thought out and a well created record."

They put their mammoth 59cm long and 39cm wide creation on eBay with the hope of raising £100 for Children in Need and have already exceeded that target as eight bidders raised the total to £118, even with another four days left on the auction.

Mr Morgan, a polythene factory manager from West Bridgford, said the idea stemmed from baking large biscuits with his three children.
