  Largest candy cane: Geneva chef breaks Guinness world record (VIDEO)

GENEVA, IL, USA -- Hundreds of people crowded around in the winter dark of Geneva's Third Street, watching as Chef Alain Roby of the All-Chocolate Kitchen used a small blow torch to fasten the last cluster of spun-sugar ribbon bows to his massive creation: A 51-foot candy cane made of 900 pounds of sugar, which sets the new world record for the longest candy cane, according to the World Record Academy: www.worldrecordacademy.com/.

The Guinness world record for the longest candy necklace measured 1,141.22 m (3,744 ft 1 in) and was assembled by Collin Gouldin (USA) at Willow Bend Church in Plano, Texas, USA.

Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the most people unwrapping a candy simultaneously is 590, achieved by Lindt USA (USA), in Stratham, New Hampshire, USA.

  This would be a third Guinness World Record for Roby, who holds world records for the tallest cooked sugar building at 12 feet, 10 inches, and the largest chocolate sculpture, at 20 feet, eight inches.

  The World's Largest Candy Crane was laid out on a table, wrapped in festive green blown sugar ribbon and lit up with white lights.

  Roby is a certified master chef of pastry and artistry, and he has created other masterpieces including a 700 pound sculpture of Neil Armstrong in an astronaut suit that was featured on the Food Network.

  He also created a life-size chocolate sculpture of a Blackhawks player honoring Chicago Blackhawk's legend Eddie Olczyk when the team won the 2010 Stanley Cup.

  Roby's Third Street candy cane came on the second night of Geneva's Annual Christmas Walk, festivities to kick off the holiday season.
