Largest brandy truffle - world record set by Gianni D'Aniello and chef Chris Long

 BROMSGROVE, Worcester, UK--To mark the start of National Chocolate Week, Gianni D'Aniello, the landlord of The Queen's Head Inn , and his head chef Chris Longhave created a giant brandy truffle weighing in at 253.9kg - which sets the new world record for the Largest brandy truffle .

The previous Guinness World record for the Largest Brandy Truffle was a comparatively measly 196.3kg.

   The Largest Brandy Truffle in The World , in accordance with the Guinness World Records official guidelines, was created in the correct proportions and prepared in the same way as a normal size truffle with a ganache centre before being coated in cocoa powder.

The ingredients were generously donated by Callebaut in Banbury (the Belgian chocolate), on-trade drinks supplier Matthew Clark (brandy), Robert Wiseman Dairies (double cream) and Makro (cocoa powder).
    Pat Sheridan, from Cat Joinery in Catshill, made the wooden plinth on which the huge truffle was constructed and representatives from the sponsoring companies attended the record attempt.

   The team of official witnesses included four fire fighters from Bromsgrove Station - Nigel Smart, Simon Hawkins, Lucy Ward and Liam Duffy - who in true heroic style stepped in at the last minute when The Queen's Head Inn discovered it was one witness short.

   The Weightron CPE22 digital platform scales were supplied by A E Oscroft & Sons Ltd, based in Redditch. It required eight people to lift the gigantic chocolate structure on to the scales.

    The Largest Brandy Truffle in The World was weighed in front of several guests, including June Griffiths, the chairman of Bromsgrove District Council, and Louise McCathie from the Birmingham Children's Hospital.

   The World's Largest Brandy Truffle will now be dismantled and rolled into smaller truffles, which will be sold at various locations, including The Queen's Head Inn, to raise money for the Children's Heart Appeal , at the Birmingham Children's Hospital.

 'We are hoping to make about 2,000 smaller truffles out of it which should raise about £7,000 for the hospital. Hopefully a truffle or two should really sweeten the deal for them.'
