   Largest Pot of Beans  - world record set by Macedonian Villagers

  STIP, Macedonia -- Chief cook Ljupco Gievski and his six-member team spent a day carefully preparing a 832.14 US gallons (3,150 litres) beanspot - setting the new world record for the Largest Pot of Beans .

   The previous Guinness World Record for the Largest Pot of Beans was held by a group of students from the US town of Horace, North Dakota who in 2002 managed to prepare 1.342 litres of beans.

    The jubilant chef, who had cooked the World's Largest Pot of Beans at the request of the people of Sarcievo village near Stip, said on Sunday: “The bean tasted delicious, it had all the ingredients it needs.”

    About 400 kilos of beans, 200 kilos of bacon, nine kilos of onions and large quantities of other ingredients were used to prepare the Largest Pot of Beans in The World according to a traditional Macedonian recipe called “Tetovsko Grafche”.

    The preparations for the big event started early in the morning as big crowds amassed to watch the spectacle. Several thousand people sampled the specialty after six hours of cooking.

    Guinness World Record adjudicator Tarika Vara officially announced that cook Ljupco Gievski and his six-member team from “Alexander Palace" hotel set the World Record for the Largest Pot of Beans ever.

   She presented Stojan Davcev , the founder and organiser of the first ever summer church "St. Petka", with the Guinness World Record certificate.    

   The first summer church “St. Petka” was sanctified by the Head of the Macedonian Orthodox Church HH Stefan in attendance of other bishops from region.

    The bean dish is considered a traditional meal in Macedonia with many variations from region to region.
