  Largest Koshary plate: Egypt breaks Guinness World Records' record

CAIRO, Egypt -- During the Koshary Festival, a food festival about launching a new food mobile application called "Engezni", a huge plate of koshary measuring 10 metres long and in width and of 1.2 metres in height was made; the plate weighed 7 tonnes, or about 7,000 kg, setting the new world record for the Largest Koshary plate, according to the World Record Academy: www.worldrecordacademy.com/ .

The Guinness World Records' record for the largest cheese slice weighs 135.5 kg (298 lb 11.68 oz) and was created by Halayeb Katilo Co (Egypt) in Cairo, Egypt, on 13 July 2012. The slice measured 1.14 m (3 ft 8.88 in) by 0.79 m (2 ft 7.1 in) by 0.15 m (5.91 in). The cheese was made in January 2011 and left to mature until the event.

  Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the oldest horse stables; they were established by the Egyptian pharaoh, Ramses II (1304-1237 BC) to breed horses for war, hunting and recreation. They were discovered in early 1999 by a joint German-Egyptian archeologicial team headed by Edgar Pusch (Germany) in the ancient city of Piramesse, in the Nile Delta, Egypt. The stables are also believed to be the largest, covering approximately 17,000 m² (182,986 ft²) and housing 460 horses at one time.

    Koshary is a traditional Egyptian dish dating to the 19th century in which rice, pasta and lentils are mixed together in one plate with a topping of spicey tomato sauce and some crispy fried onions.

    The festival was about launching a new food mobile application called "Engezni", where people can review food or even order online. "We wanted to launch the application in a remarkable way, a way that leaves people connected to it," said Ahmed El-Shenawy, co-founder of "Engezni".

  The application, which is the work of five American University in Cairo (AUC) students, won the second best mobile application at the University Mobile Challenge, an annual competition part of the Mobile World Congress, the largest international conference and exhibition for mobile technology.

  It launched on Saturday on Google play, Android online store, and will soon be launched on Apple's IOS online appstore.

   About 6,000 attendees turned up to the festival, earning it a place in the world record books.
