  Most expensive whisky sold at auction: The Macallan M breaks Guinness World Records record (VIDEO)

HONG KONG, China -- The Macallan M Imperiale 6-litre Lalique decanter sold at auction in Hong Kong for $628,000, breaking the previous Guinness World Records world record of $460,000 held by The Macallan in Lalique Cire Perdue, raising funds for a host of locally based charities and setting the new world record for the Most expensive whisky sold at auction, according to the World Record Academy: www.worldrecordacademy.com/ .

The Guinness World Records' record for the most expensive whisky sold at auction is $628,000 (£380,168), for the 6-litre Macallan M Decanter-Constantine and was sold at Sotheby's in Hong Kong, China, on 23 January 2014. The 6-litre Macallan M decanter stands at 70 cms (28 inches) tall and weighing 11.3 Kgs empty and 16.8 Kgs once filled. The decanter will serve a total of three hundred 20ml drams.

  Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the Largest collection of whisky bottles, set by Alfredo Gonçalves of Lisbon, Portugal, who has collected 10,500 unduplicated whisky bottles in all different shapes. His collection is open to the public at his shop "Whisky & Co" in Lisbon, Portugal.

   Lalique created four of these stupendous decanters for The Macallan. Each decanter required the work of 17 craftsmen, including two with the prestigious title, Meilleur Ouvrier de France, with each taking over 50 hours to complete.
