  Most expensive cocktail: bartender Joel Heffernan breaks Guinness world record (VIDEO)

Melbourne, Australia -- Joel Heffernan, an award winning mixologist and bartender at Crown Casino's Club 23, in Melbourne, set a new World Record for the most expensive cocktail this week with a drink that sold for 12,500 Australian dollars ($12,916) , according to the World Record Academy: www.worldrecordacademy.com/.

Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the most cocktails commercially available: 1,244 - listed in the menu of Pench's Cocktail Bar in Varna (Bulgaria).

 The previous Guinness world record for the most expensive cocktail was sold for £5,500 ($8,802.37) and was made by Salvatore Calabrese (Italy), at Salvatore's Bar, London, UK.

  The world's most expensive cocktail takes around sixteen hours to put together which also include two small amounts of Cognac Croizet 1858 Curvee Leonie Cognac.

  The price of the cocktail — named Winston for Winston Churchill — is so astronomical thanks to its two nips of 1858 Croizet cognac: A bottle of the cognac has a $157,000 value and it goes for $6,000 per shot.

  There's also some Grand Marnier Quintessence, Chartreuse Vieillissement Exceptionnellement Prolonge, a dash of Angostura Bitters and other fancy touches such as chocolate nutmeg dust.

  The Wall Street Journal notes that the cocktail's buyer only took a couple sips and left at an event.
