The Guinness World Records' record for the most champagne bottles sabered in one minute is 32 and was achieved by Julio Gonzalo Chang Romero (Spain) in Marbella, Spain.

Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the most champagne bottles sabered simultaneously; it was achieved by 196 participants in an event organised by Centro Empresarial e Cultural de Garibaldi (Brazil) at the Fenachamp 2011 champagne festival in Garibaldi, Rio Grande, Brazil.

The sabering technique, formally known as "sabrage," is often used for ceremonial occasions. The saber or sword is slid along the body of the bottle to break the neck away, leaving only the base of the bottle open and ready to pour.

Napoléon's army is said to have started the custom when leaving for a military campaign in a rush… or to celebrate a victory.

"The temperature of the bottle, the angle at which it's held, and the exact point where the blade meets the glass all play a role," Mr. Ancona said. To reduce sabering time, bottles must also be placed on the table at an exact distance apart from one another.

In front of family, friends and news crew from Channel 3 and Channel 12, Mitchell Ancona, set a new World record by opening 35 bottles of champagne in one minute by sabrage!

In addition to being witness to a World Record, attendees were treated to delicious fare supplied by Ancona's Market and gelato from Tusk & Cup. VIP guests were treated to a bottle of champagne courtesy of Piper-Heidsieck, The Ridgefield's HamletHub reported.
