  Largest Smoothie: Cabot Creamery breaks Guinness world record

NEW YORK, NY, USA -- The 400-gallon sMOOthie made by the Cabot Creamery Cooperative with the help of Vitamix at the Bike Expo New York held on Pier 36 in Basketball City, New York, NY., required more than 3,200 fresh bananas, one ton of ice, and nearly 1,000 pounds of Cabot Lowfat Vanilla Bean Greek-Style Yogurt; the 400-gallon sMOOthie sets the new world record for the Largest Smoothie, according to the World Record Academy: www.worldrecordacademy.com/ .

 The former Guinness world record for the the World's Largest Smoothie was held by a team of students from Fresno State University. They created a smoothie on April 13 that was 1,438 liters (380 US gallons) of orange juice, yogurt, and frozen strawberries.

  Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the largest cup/glass of soft drink; it contains 5,534 litres of lemonade (194,769.49 UK fl oz; 187,126.8 US fl oz) and was created by Batroun Traders Association (Lebanon), in Batroun, Lebanon.

  "I'm so proud of everyone on our team who helped us set a new world record," said Cabot's New York Market Manager and team leader, Karen Houchens .

 "It was a great team effort led by our farmers and staff, and when it was all over we were exhausted but happy that we were able to raise more than $6,000 in cash and product donations for Food Bank For New York City."

  The 400-gallon sMOOthie required more than 3,200 fresh bananas, one ton of ice, and nearly 1,000 pounds of Cabot Lowfat Vanilla Bean Greek-Style Yogurt.

  The logistics of keeping all of the ingredients flowing to the team members who were blending the product was monumental.

 "We needed to keep a steady flow of ice, Cabot Lowfat Vanilla Bean Greek-Style Yogurt, and bananas going to the blending team," said Houchens.

 "It was a real challenge because we were not able to store all the ingredients in our event tent – there was simply too much product, so we had to have team runners replenish supplies throughout the day. It was a great team effort and we are all proud of this fun accomplishment."

  Once the record was established and the formalities of the world record certification were complete, the 400-gallon sMOOthie was passed out to event attendees in commemorative World's Largest sMOOthie cups for a suggested one-dollar donation to Food Bank For New York City.
