  Largest cream tea party: Derian tea party breaks Guinness world record

Astley Park, Chorley, UK -- More than 430 people turned out to Astley Park to help smash the world record for the largest ever cream tea; organisers needed 403 people enjoying a brew and a scone to break the current Guinness world record — and they celebrated sweet success when 430 turned up, despite the wet weather, setting the new world record for the Largest cream tea party, according to the World Record Academy: www.worldrecordacademy.com/ .

 The Guinness world record for the largest tea party (NOT cream tea party!) is 32,681 participants and was achieved by Dainik Bhaskar (India) for the City of Indore, at Nehru Stadium, in Indore, India.

  Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the largest cup of tea; it is 4000 litres (7039.01 pt) in volume and was produced by GlaxoSmithKline Beecham (Private) Ltd (Sri Lanka) for Viva, at Burgher Recreation Club grounds in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

  More than 430 people turned out to Astley Park to help smash the Guinness world record for the largest ever cream tea.

  Participants ranged from pensioners to toddlers.

  Organiser Lucy Sawdon-Collings said: "From what we have seen, we have broken the world record by a good margin. Everyone has had a fantastic time and it was the perfect way to celebrate our birthday. Yes it rained, but we're British — no-one let it ruin the fun."

  Susie Poppitt, fund-raising manager at Derian House, said: "I'd like to thank everyone who helped organise the event, provided sponsorship and took part. It was a great thing to be a part of."
