  Largest Coffee Party: Boyaca, Colombia breaks Guinness world record


TUNJA, COLOMBIA -- With the support of the Colombian Coffee Growers Federation (FNC) and the Department of Boyaca, Colombia, 13,567 Colombian coffee drinkers, including over 400 coffee growers, gathered to break the Guinness Record Records' record set by 8,162 participants in Cologne, Germany; the 13,567 Colombian coffee drinkers have set the new
world record for the Largest Coffee Party (single venue), according to the World Record Academy: www.worldrecordacademy.com/ largest coffee party world record set by The Colombian Coffee Growers Federation .

The Guinness World Records' record for the largest coffee party in a single venue involved 8,162 participants and was set by Krüger GmbH & Co. KG (Germany) at the Jugendpark in Cologne, Germany.

  Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the Largest simultaneous coffee party, set by Macmillan Cancer Relief (UK), which broke their record of the previous year for the largest coffee morning with a total number of 576,157 people attending over 26,000 meetings simultaneously throughout the UK.

 The 2013 largest coffee gathering kicked off at 11 a.m. at the Plaza Bolivar in Tunja, Colombia where attendees were welcomed with a cup of Colombian Coffee grown in the Boyaca region. They were then sectioned off in different parts of the Plaza to be counted and a giant screen displayed the number of people recorded.

  "It was a true honor to have such a big number of attendees gathered in one place representing the Colombian coffee culture," said Luis F. Samper, Chief Communications and Marketing Officer of the Colombian Coffee Growers Federation (FNC).

 "Breaking this Guinness World Records' record means the world to Colombian coffee farmers as we look to promote and encourage Colombian coffee consumption, and which better place to break the record than in Boyaca, Colombia, one of the 21 departments known for the production of export quality coffee."

  Professor Yarumo, celebrated agricultural figure and coffee expert representing over 1,500 FNC agronomists, as well as iconic Colombian coffee character, Juan Valdez, were also present to witness this never-before seen coffee drinking gathering that continues to put Colombia on the map as the coffee capital of the world.

 "Everyone seemed to enjoy their time at Plaza Bolivar and we can't find enough words to describe how thankful we are to have had everyone be a part of this significant event and support the 12 thousand coffee producers from our department," said Juan Carlos Granados, Governor of Boyaca.
