  Largest Champagne Tasting: Eurostar breaks Guinness World Records' record (VIDEO)


LONDON, UK -- Eurostar, the high-speed passenger rail service linking the UK with mainland Europe, kick-started their 20th anniversary celebrations by setting the world record title for the Largest Champagne Tasting Event; passengers on the 10:25 service from London St Pancras were welcomed on board with a special announcement from Eurostar's Business Premier Culinary Director and Michelin starred chef Raymond Blanc who hosted the tasting; Travellers in all classes were served three types of Champagne to sample and a slice of Opera cake; the record had been broken, with a total of 515 travellers taking part,

The stunt was attended by TV chef Raymond Blanc, who is Eurostar's business premier culinary director. He and his sommelier from restaurant Belmond Le Manoir aux Quat'Saisons, Arnaud Goubet, joined passengers on the 10:25am service from London St Pancras to set the record. The Guinness World Records' record for the most champagne corks popped simultaneously is 2,778 and was achieved on Banca Mediolanum 25th Anniversary's toast, at BPA Palas in Pesaro, Italy, on 26 October 2007.

  Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the most champagne bottles sabered simultaneously; it was achieved by 277 participants in an event organised by Centro Empresarial e Cultural de Garibaldi (Brazil) in Garibaldi, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, on 5 October 2013.

   Passengers were also given a slice of Opera cake selected by Raymond Blanc to complement the Champagne.


  Shortly after the tasting finished on UK tracks, the official GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS adjudicator raised her glass to announce to passengers that a new record title had been set for the Largest Champagne Tasting Event, with 515 taking part.
