  Largest collection of crab memorabilia - Dr Darren Martin sets world record

  LONDON, UK -- Dr Darren Martin , 40, has amassed 363 crab-branded items - including toys, puzzles and mugs - over the last 15 years - setting the new world record for the Largest collection of crab memorabilia .

    The greatest crab in the collection?
   "My daughter. After careful planning she was born between 22nd June and 22nd July, therefore making her zodiac sign, Cancer - the crab."   
   " It was pure coincidence, I'm not that well organized..."

    The world's largest collection of crab memorabilia began during his marine biology studies at university, where his doctorate focused on Zinc and Cadmium in haemolymph of the crab – summed up by his friends as 'Darren studied crabs'.    

Dr Darren Martin : “It's all a bit of a laugh really, I don't take it seriously. “They are dotted around all over my house but I have a bookshelf in my house which my Vietnamese wife has an incenses candle on the top and then underneath is the main bulk of crabs – so it likes a bit like a crab shrine.

    "It started with someone giving me a crab shaped pencil sharpener and then things started to snowball from there, crab memorabilia started coming from all directions (a kind of pincer movement you might say) - clocks, toys, stamps, glasses, books, mugs, etc - if it had a crab on it, I was given it. I finally gave in, and started to add to the collection myself," says Dr Darren Martin .

    Items adorning the side-walking creatures flooded in from friends and family, resulting in the father of one – whose two-year-old daughter Hannah has the star sign cancer - giving in and adding to the collection himself.     

    Mr Martin added: “It's not a major part of my life, I'm not obsessed and I don't take it seriously but I just think it would be very funny to be a world record holder.”
