Most expensive razor: Zafirro Iridium sets world record

PORTLAND, Ore., USA -- The Zafirro Iridiumrazor (a Limited Edition of 99) has sapphire blades and a handle made primarily from iridium, one of the rarest and strongest metals in existence; it went on sale for a cost of $100,000 per piece , setting the world record for Most expensive razor .

The Guinness world record for the Most expensive baseball sold at auction at Guernsey's auction house, New York City, USA for $3,054,000, including commission, to Todd McFarlane.

Guinness World Records also recognized the most expensive coin in the world: the 1933 Double Eagle, a $20-gold coin which was auctioned at Sotheby's, New York, USA and fetched $7,590,020 including buyer's premium.

"Our goal in founding Zafirro was to take a quantum leap forward in razor technology, to build the sharpest blade ever made and make it last forever," commented Hayden Hamilton, Zafirro CEO.

The company attributes the high price tag to the rarity and durability of iridium. Zafirro cites that iridium is ten times more rare than platinum and is primarily used in "the aerospace industry for components such as rocket engines where durability is critical."

"Our aim was to create one of the most impressive consumer products ever made, something that would be equally at home in a Smithsonian technology exhibit or a MOMA design exhibition," said CEO Hayden Hamilton.

Utilizing expertise in fields as varied as rocket engine manufacturing, nanotechnology, and particle physics, the Zafirro Iridium combines some of the rarest, strongest, and most technically advanced materials in existence.

The resulting combination of exotic materials pushes the boundaries of technology while creating an aesthetic that could be the centerpiece of a gallery collection.

Hypoallergenic, impervious to oxidation and corrosion, and an order of magnitude more durable than any other shaving blade.

Due to the limited global supply of iridium and the complexities of manufacturing, the company will only produce 99 of the Iridium line, which will go on sale for $100,000.

Zafirro intends to launch additional lines of razors based on their sapphire blade technology over the next 12 months.

The blades include a 10 year guarantee and Zafirro will provide complementary servicing and professional cleaning for Iridium customers, as well as resharpening if necessary.

Having spent the majority of the last three and a half years to researching and developing this technology, expertise in fields such as rocket engine manufacturing, nanotechnology and particle physics were needed, and also manufacturing and technology expertise from around the world.
