Longest attached rope of Silly Bandz -
Boynton Beach students set world record
BOYNTON BEACH, Fla., USA--Seven students from Crystal Lakes Elementary School raised $4,773 for a friend while linking a half-mile of Silly Bandz, the colorful bracelets in the shapes of everything - setting the new world record for the Longest attached rope of Silly Bandz .

Money raised will go to the family of Maggie Schoenfeld, 11, who recently had a second bone marrow transplant. The fifth-grader, now home from Miami Children's Hospital, was diagnosed with leukemia about five years ago.

"We are so proud of the children. This was all their idea," said Karen Urkmez, whose two children were among those who helped organize the event at the Boynton Beach Mall.

The students collected 16,177 of the 3 -inch-wide bracelets, enough to stretch the length of the mall and back. The students then linked them in a long bracelet they called Maggie's "Rope of Hope." They gave individual links to donors.

The 900-yard bracelet — which could stretch the length of the Boynton Beach Mall and halfway back again — smashes the previous Guinness World record of 1,000 feet.

Local restaurants donated food and stores donated gifts that were auctioned.

   Guinness World Records also recognized
the largest collection of keychains belongs to Brent Dixon of Valdosta, Georgia, USA, with 41,418 non-duplicated key chain.
