  Largest masking tape ball: Aurora school sets world record (VIDEO)

Aurora, IL, USA -- The masking tape ball made by Cowherd Middle School teacher Matt Harding's class currently weighs more than 100 pounds and is more than 60 inches around, setting the world record for the Largest masking tape ball, according to the World Record Academy: www.worldrecordacademy.com/.

The Guinness world record for the largest tape ball weighed 907.18 kg (2,000 lb) and had a circumference of 3.89 m (12 ft 9 in). The ball was made by the Portland Promise Center (USA) and was completed in Louisville Kentucky, USA. The tapes used in the attempt were duct tape, electrical tape, masking tape, gaffers tape, packing tape, foil tape and athletic tape.

  Guinness World Records also recognized the largest soccer ball measured a diameter of 15.66 m (51 ft 4 in) and was created by KIA Motors and Emperors Palace Resort and Casino in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Three years ago, a student in Matt Harding's classroom made objects from discarded masking tape and then gifted them to his teacher.

  While preparing for the new school year, the popular Cowherd Middle School teacher found that small mass of tape and, with the encouragement of his current students, decided to allow this project of the past to make history in the future!

 Today, that small tape ball has grown to more than 100 pounds and more than five feet in circumference. It has been acknowledged as the "World's Largest MASKING Tape Ball" on record by the World Record Academy, www.worldrecordacademy.com.

 Harding and his students have set out to beat that world record set in 2011 with a tape ball measuring 2,000 pounds and 12 feet 9 inches in circumference comprised of duct, electrical, packing, masking and other types of tape.

 "Our goal is to break the world record by using only masking tape," said Harding. To achieve this global goal, Harding and his students are seeking donations of masking tape with no donation being too small or too large.
