Largest Millennium Falcon: Star Wars fans set world record (VIDEO)

MELBOURNE, VIC, Australia -- To celebrate international Star Wars™ day in Australia, Melbournians helped LEGO Master Builders Chris and Dan Steininger build the world's largest Millennium Falcon from LEGO bricks; measuring nearly 5 metres (16 feet) across, built from around 250,000 Lego bricks, it sets the new world record for the Largest Milennium Falcon
, according to the World Record Academy .

Master builders Chris and Dan Steininger built the world's largest model of the Millennium Falcon in Melbourne, Australia. The finished model is a whopping 5 m wide and was built from around 250,000 Lego bricks. The duo also built two imperial TIE fighters, each standing 2 m high and made of 80,000 bricks.   Photo: Master builders Chris and Dan Steininger built the world's largest model of the Millennium Falcon in Melbourne, Australia. The Guinness World Records' record for the largest collection of complete LEGO® sets in a private collection is 1,091 and belongs to Kyle Ugone (USA) in Yuma, Arizona, USA, as of 23 July 2011.

Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the largest build and display of LEGO® Star Wars™ Clone Troopers; it was composed of 35,210 individual models and was built by LEGO® in Slough, UK, on 27 June 2008.

In the lead-up to international "Star Wars" celebrations on May the Fourth, Lego Master Builders Dan and Chris Steininger spent two days building an ambitious project: the world's biggest ever Millennium Falcon built entirely of Lego bricks.

Alongside Han Solo's iconic freighter, the pair also built two Imperial TIE fighters -- along with help from visitors to the Westfield Southland mall in Melbourne, Australia.

The Millennium Falcon is a real tour de force, measuring nearly 5 metres (16 feet) across, built from around 250,000 Lego bricks. The TIE Fighters are a little smaller, but nevertheless fabulous: each stands two metres high (6.6 feet) and is made of around 80,000 Lego bricks.

In the Star Wars universe, the Millennium Falcon is commanded by Han Solo (played by Harrison Ford in the first three films) with Chewbacca (Peter Mayhew) as his first mate.

"Usually models the size of the Millennium Falcon can take more than a week to build and it was thanks to the Aussie fans that we were able to build a model of this size in such a short time," Dan says.    "This model was ground-breaking for LEGO because of the way it stretches out wide. Normally when we build big LEGO builds they stand tall, so this was both an exciting and challenging experience for Chris and myself."
