 Oldest Papergirl:
Beryl Walker smash Guinness world record

LONDON, UK -- Dedicated Great grandmother, Beryl Walker, of Gloucester, started her round 35 years ago – and has so far cycled 40,000 miles and delivered 500,000 newspapers,
setting the new world record for the Oldest Papergirl, according to the World Record Academy: www.worldrecordacademy.com/ .

The Guinness world record for the Longest career as an ice-cream man was set by Charlie D'Angelo of Clifton, New Jersey, USA, who has been working as an ice-cream man non-stop for 30 years since 1979 in his Iggy's Igloo ice-cream truck.

Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the oldest recorded active judge; it was Judge Albert R. Alexander (1859-1966) of Plattsburg, Missouri, USA. He was enrolled as a member of the Clinton County Bar in 1926 and was later the magistrate and probate judge of Clinton County until his retirement on 9 July 1965 aged 105 years 8 months .

Beryl, who turned 88, is seven years older than the oldest papergirl listed in the Guinness Book of World Records – Joyce Pugh, 81, from Shropshire.

She delivers around 100 papers a day to homes and businesses in Dean's Walk, Castlemeads and the city centre, The Citizen reported.

In her 35 years doing the job, she estimates she has delivered 250,000 copies of The Citizen.

The 84-year-old, who started 40 years ago when a friend wanted some part-time help, has only taken a few days off sick when she fell off her bike.

Having delivered The Citizen for 35 years, rough calculations estimate Beryl has cycled over 40,000 miles on her round in that time, posting almost half a million local and national newspapers.

Beryl's boss, newsagent manager Julie Behan is a spring chicken by comparison at just 54.
"Beryl is so reliable and always waiting for her papers outside at 6.10am on the dot every morning," she said.

"We have been here for five years and she has never let us down. Beryl is certainly a character and knows everything, she is very popular with the customers."
