The Guinness world record for the longest time an individual has worked for the same company is 80 years, a record set by Thomas Stoddard (b. 1912) who started working at Speakman Company located in Wilmington, Delaware, USA, on 16 February 1928 as a mail boy until his retirement in 2008 as a member of the Board of Directors.

Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the longest career as a postal worker: 53 years and 48 days, achieved by Takashi Miyaoka (Japan) who worked at the Shinjuku postal office in Tokyo, Japan.

"It seems like it's more exciting to everybody else than it is for me," said the Covina resident, who has only taken three sick days while employed at the dealership.

"I know I've been here for a long time but I didn't know it was some kind of record."

"I think it's the most wonderful thing in the world," said Salter's daughter, Victoria, 61, one of five children.

"I really think he really deserves it. I don't know anybody in that company right now that has been there that long and enjoyed it so much."

Reynolds Sales Manager Lisa Lidle said she wasn't surprised by the accomplishment, the SGV Tribune reported.

"He has a clientele base like no other," said Lidle, who has worked side-by-side with Salter for the past 33 years.

"He has a positive attitude and loves to come into work every day," Lidle said. "It's incredible. He's a stellar person."

Despite having been eligible for retirement more than 20 years ago, Salter said he doesn't plan on slowing down anytime soon.

"I'll just keep doing what I'm doing," Salter said. "Every sale is sort of a challenge. I enjoy it. It keeps me busy. It keeps your mind sharp. It's fun. That's why I do it."
