Longest career as a weather forecaster-Dave Devall sets world record

TORONTO, Canada -- Toronto weather institution Dave Devall is signing off from CTV News after an astonishing 48 years, 2 months, 27 days on the job-which sets the world record for the Longest career as a weather forecaster .

"It's kind of weird, to tell you the truth," Devall admitted. "I will miss the audience. I guess I'll be able to walk down the street a month from now and people will say, 'Dave who?' "

Devall is a Toronto native and while studying radio and television arts at Ryerson he also served in the Royal Canadian Air Force, where part of his training included meteorology.
When CTV Toronto launched in 1961, Devall auditioned with 2,000 other hopefuls. He was one of six people hired as a broadcaster.

He had worked at CFPL-TV in London, radio station CFRB in Toronto and CHEX-TV in Peterborough before joining CTV.

In addition to the accolades he has received recently from many (including Raptor’s star Chris Bosh who filled in for him during a weather cast), Devall will have a street temporarily named after him.

A special sign will be put up at the intersection of Channel Nine Court and McCowan Road in Scarborough, in advance of his retirement. The sign will stay up for a few months before it is taken down and formally presented to the newly retired Devall.
