The Guinness world record for the fastest time to run one mile carrying a 40 lb pack is 5 minutes and 16.9 seconds, achieved by Lee Riley (UK) at Cumberland Sports Ground in Crewe, Cheshire, UK.
Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the fastest marathon carrying a 40 lb (18.1 kg) pack was 4 hr 01 min 17 sec by Lee Riley (UK) at the 2011 Virgin London Marathon in London, UK.
Lee, a fitness instructor, already holds the record for running 400 metres, one mile, five kilometres, a half marathon and full marathon carrying a 40lb pack.
Lee, who left the Royal Marine Commandos five years ago, said: "It's about keeping your pride and keeping your standard up without being in the force."
The 40lb pack is equivalent to "assault weight" – the weight of equipment Marines would go into battle with – and was the most common weight such challenges had been done with in the past, he said.
