The Guinness World Records world record for the e largest Christmas cracker pull was achieved by 1,478 participants for an event organised by Honda R&D KEN-YU-KAI Tochigi (Japan) at Tochigi Proving Ground, Tochigi, Japan, on 18 October 2009.

Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the longest Christmas cracker; it measured 63.1 m (207 ft) long and 4 m (13 ft) in diameter and was made by the parents of children at Ley Hill School and Pre-School, Chesham, Buckinghamshire, UK on 20 December 2001.

The bid was held at Northfield Academy's newly opened 3G pitch, with 1,077 children and school staff from Northfield Academy and associated primary schools – Bramble Brae School, Holy Family RC School and Manor Park, Muirfield School, Quarryhill School, Heathryburn School and Westpark School – participating.

The Lord Provost of Aberdeen George Adam also attended the Guinness World Record attempt. Those taking part had to form one continuous chain, and alternate participants had to have their arms crossed to allow the chain to be continuous. Each person had to hold two crackers, one in each hand.

Participants at the event in Aberdeen were asked to donate to the STV Children's Appeal, Northfield Academy's chosen charity for the year.

The previous Guinness World Records world record for the longest Christmas cracker pulling chain consists of 798 people, achieved by Youth St Vincent de Paul Society (Ireland) in Waterford, Ireland, on December 15, 2014.
